Job Description

The Apheresis RN Senior practices at the level of expert partitioner of nursing. The RN will work with MSRH , the Mays Cancer Center Apheresis unit, and stem cell transplant and cellular therapy (SCTCT) teams. The RN at this level demonstrates expertise in caring for patients with multiple and complex problems. In addition to demonstrating clinical leadership on the unit, the RN Senior serves as a resource and system-wide consultant to staff and participates in endeavors to increase nursing knowledge. The Registered Nurse IV may function as a back to the clinical leader. Works with the cellular therapy lab personnel team, in addition to the SCTCT infusion center, coordinators, and the rest of the SCTCT team. Ensures protocols and practices, workflows, ensuring compliance with department, affiliate, SCTCT unit, policies and procedures, regulations, Foundation for the Accreditation and Cellular Therapy, and system-wide standards and applicable laws are followed by the team.  This role may cross over to inpatients to perform stem cell collections or therapeutic apheresis. This role may report to the Senior SCTCT Director and the Medical Director of the Apheresis Program and Lab Services

Responsibilities

  • Promotes an environment that values diversity, open communication, teamwork, and exceptional service. Ensures that appropriate care and services are available to patients, clients, and families during assigned shifts.  
  • Verifies patients' needs are met and evaluates unit nursing care and performance.  
  • Ensures adherence to institutional, divisional and unit based policies and procedures as well as external regulatory requirements. 
  • Participates in planning work of assigned units and coordinates activities with other patient care units and related departments.  
  • Accurately and completely maintain patient records, including computer records  
  • Coordinates, designs, and implements educational programs to meet the identified learning needs of staff, patients, and families.
  • Promotes and ensures staff participation in continuing education, orientation, competency, in-service, and staff development offerings.  
  • Assists Nurse Manager by providing assigned staff with performance feedback and opportunity to set professional goals. Models and promotes behaviors that effectively give continual feedback to staff and colleagues. Integrates best practice standards regarding retention of staff in all aspects of practice.  
  • Develops, implements, and evaluates new and creative approaches to meeting goals. Leads participates in and promotes performance improvement initiatives that focus on identified patient safety or quality of care opportunities.  
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.  

Qualifications

EDUCATION

  • Bachelor's Degree degree in Nursing required    

EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum of five (5) years of professional nursing experience is required.  
  • Experience in an apheresis field is preferred.  

CERTIFICATION AND LICENSURE

  • Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Texas required
  • BLS required upon hire
