Job Summary:

The Interventional Radiology Technologist completes specialized technical skills in vascular, nonvascular, and Interventional procedures, utilizes sterile techniques, and uses imaging equipment relevant to IR. The work will require on-call hours (being on-call and getting called in) in a hospital setting. Works under the general supervision of a Radiologist and completes work in accordance with established protocols.

Responsibilities:

  • The IR Technologist will assist with the quality control measures of the IR department ensuring good documentation and follow-through on issues.  
  • The IR Technologist must demonstrate knowledge in all areas of IR, sterile technique, product allocation, positioning, procedure preparation and technical factors associated with the IR systems: Performs specialized technical skills in vascular, nonvascular and interventional procedures. Participates in the diagnosis and treatment of invasive procedures. Operates radiographic equipment, including digital vascular imaging systems, interventional computed tomography (CT), Fluoroscopy.  
  • Performs procedures using ablation units, multi-planar navigational equipment and thrombectomy units. Utilizes catheters, guidelines, stints and other supplies specific to interventional radiology procedures. Prepares sterile trays and catheter insertion sites.  
  • Reviews patients charts and signed consent forms and may explain procedural related indications and contra-indications as it relates to patient care  
  • If hired without CT registry, would be expected to train, become CT proficient and obtain registry within timeframe set forth upon hiring  
  • On-call hours on a routine basis and will be scheduled on a rotating basis  
  • The IR Technologist communicates well with others, is able to prioritize multiple tasks.  
  • Ensures proper working condition of all IR Department equipment. When applicable, coordinates with vendors for repairs, scheduled maintenance, and assists directors and senior leadership in selection of new equipment. Monitors downtime and service reports.  
  • Establishes QC/QA protocols as required by JCAHO, ACR, OSHA, TDH and other agencies when applicable.  
  • Responsible for the proper use of the EPIC (scheduling exams, patient tracking, film tracking, and proper completion of exams).  

Qualifications:

  • Active listening and interpersonal communication and social skills; ability to sympathize and empathize with patients  
  • Ability to read and comprehend written instructions for imaging orders  
  • Ability to support operational initiatives and processes in meeting or exceeding service standards and expectations.  
  • Demonstrated ability to organize and coordinate work within schedule constraints and handle emergent requirements in a timely manner.  
  • Ability to maintain the strictest levels of confidentiality  

Education:

  • Associate's Degree degree in healthcare is preferred.
  • American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) approved school of Radiology Technology required

Experience:

  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience as IR Tech in high-volume acute care setting required. Hospital experience preferred. 

License and Certifications:

  • ARRT Interventional Technologist Certified, preferred
  • ARRT Computed Tomography Certified, preferred
