Job Summary:

Examines, tests, diagnoses and administers remedial treatments for patients with speech and hearing disorders.

Responsibilities:

  • Evaluates patients utilizing a wide variety of therapeutic techniques to assist patients with the rehabilitation of speech, language, hearing, and oral motor disorders.
  • Performs evaluations with special attention to receptive and expressive language skills, speech fluency, vocal and oral motor competence, articulation and auditory skills.
  • Records speech samples and conducts phonetic analyses of speech ability.
  • Documents test results an individualized treatment and activities which will enhance the patient's usage of language and ability to communicate.
  • Confers with associates and institutes treatment utilizing corrective exercises and specialized equipment.
  • Maintains active support and communication with the patient regarding progress, problems, home programs and other issues related to the therapeutic process.
  • Provides patient and parent/caregiver education and training for home exercise programs.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Ability to assess and develop comprehensive speech programs.
  • Familiarity with communication disorders.
  • Ability to build rapport with patients.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Positive and patient demeanor.
  • Strong verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.

Education:

  • Bachelors degree in Speech Language Pathology from an accredited university program.

Experience:

  • Professional experience in the areas of voice and neurologically involved patients required, preferably in a hospital setting.  

License and Certification:

  • Certificate of Clinical Competence (Clinical Fellowship Year ' CFY) in Speech-Language Pathology from AHSA and current License to Practice Speech Language Pathology in the state of Texas.
