Under limited supervision, responsible for independently applying clinical laboratory techniques in the performance of test procedures to provide data used in the diagnosis and treatment of patients.

Responsibilities

  • Assists in the daily operations of the laboratory, exercising good judgement and responsibility in all areas of testing. Troubleshoots technical/non-technical problems of a highly complex nature.
  • Reviews and documents quality control data and performs corrective action on failed tests. Reviews all quality assurance data and generates the appropriate reports for review.
  • Provides supervision to entry level staff and manages the laboratory in the Chief Technologist's absence. Assigns duties to laboratory staff.
  • Secures media and supplies for clinical testing and research studies and manages supply requests.
  • Assists in the review and revision of laboratory policies and procedures and in the preparation for laboratory inspections by various regulatory/accrediting agencies.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.
  • Testing various stem cell products for cell recovery, and viability to ensure safety, purity, and potency.                                         
  • Processing of adult hematopoietic stem cells and bone marrow for human transplantation.
  • Receipt of stem cell and study products from outside facilities, storage, and preparation for infusion.                                        
  • Transport of stem cell or immune effector cells to patient’s bedside.                                        
  • Assisting nurses during stem cell infusions at patient bedside
  • Environmental monitoring, supply control and preventative maintenance on all instruments per cGMP standards.
  • Performs validation procedures regarding establishment, optimization and change of SOP and use of equipment and reagents
  • Creating and editing SOPs and forms.
  • Use of databases such as internal databases to track patients, samples and procedures, EPIC and other software as required by the client or sponsor.
  • Operates standard lab equipment required for the processing and characterization of HCT/P (Human Cellular and Tissue based products).
  • Accountable for the oversight of equipment and facility maintenance and performs advanced troubleshooting and problem-solving.
  • Perform periodic Laboratory Information System checks (e.g., calculation, patient data) or reviews and implement any necessary changes.

Qualifications

  • Position requires advanced, technical skills in performing and analyzing various clinical laboratory tests and procedures.
  • Knowledge of general laboratory, safety and quality control, principles, techniques, and terminology.
  • Excellent customer service skills, for both internal and external customers.
  • Ability to work in a Laboratory Information System.
  • Strong computer skills including MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills; able to follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Ability to keep accurate, detailed records; use complex medical equipment.

Education:

  • Bachelor's Degree Required

Licenses/Certifications:

  • MLS Certified Medical Laboratory Scientist Required Upon Hire

Experience:

  • At least 5 years with working in a laboratory and at least 3 years of cellular therapy experience. Blood Bank experience is preferred
