Under direct supervision, responsible for providing technical skills in organizing and performing various medical laboratory procedures and clinical laboratory techniques.

Responsibilities

  • Performs routine laboratory procedures recognizing deviation from expected results.
  • Analyzes and corrects problems with the assistance of more senior personnel.
  • Performs Quality Control and calibrations on instruments.
  • Performs weekly preventative maintenance on laboratory instruments and equipment.
  • Accessions samples for in-house testing and referral laboratory testing.
  • Secures media and supplies for clinical testing or research studies and manages supply requests.
  • Assists in the review and revision of laboratory policies and procedures and in the preparation for laboratory inspections by various regulatory/accrediting agencies.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Excellent customer service for both internal and external customers.
  • Knowledge of general laboratory, safety and quality control, principles, techniques, and terminology, and use of complex medical equipment.
  • Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a Laboratory Information System.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Ability to maintain accurate and detailed records.

EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor's degree in related field required.

LICENSE AND CERTIFICATION:

  • Certified as a Medical Laboratory Scientist by the American Society of Clinical Pathologist or equivalent within 2 years of hire.
